Commenting on the news that Cleveland Bridge will close and all jobs will be lost, Leader of the Darlington Labour Group Cllr Steve Harker said:

“The closure of Cleveland Bridge is a complete failure of the conservatives’ levelling up agenda. Hundreds of jobs have been lost and the town has lost yet another part of its proud industrial history.

 

“The Conservatives run every level of government in Darlington, the Government, the Council, the Mayor, the MP and the local Councillors are all conservative. The failure to save the historic Cleveland Bridge Company, and hundreds of jobs, is entirely theirs. They cannot hide from this. 

 

“My heart goes out to the workers who, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs. The Labour Group will push for the council to do all it can to help them find new jobs and give them all the support we can until then.”
